Hello, Glen Alpine Elementary families! This is Mrs. Westerfield with a few important reminders for the week of October 19th-23rd.

Monday, October 19th, and Tuesday, October 20th, will be teacher workdays, so students will not attend school on those days. Students will return on Wednesday, October 21st, as we begin our second nine weeks of school. I cannot believe we have already completed the first nine weeks! Time is certainly flying by, and I am so proud of all the hard work our students and staff have put in so far.

Please be on the lookout for parent-teacher conference sign-ups. Our conference days are scheduled for November 2nd and November 3rd. This is a great opportunity to meet with your child's teacher, discuss their progress, and work together to make the second nine weeks even more successful.

I also want to remind everyone that any afternoon transportation changes must be submitted to the school in writing. We cannot accept transportation changes over the phone or through ClassDojo.

Speaking of ClassDojo, please remember that our teachers are busy teaching and working with students throughout the school day. They may not see or be able to respond to messages right away. If you have important or time-sensitive information, please call the school office directly so we can make sure your message is received and handled promptly.

As always, thank you for your continued support of Glen Alpine Elementary. We appreciate our wonderful families and everything you do to help make our school a great place to learn and grow. We are looking forward to an amazing second nine weeks!

We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday morning. Have a great evening.

Good Evening, This is Mrs. Westerfield calling again to let you know that school will operate on a normal schedule tomorrow, Monday. Oct 12th. However, due to some roads that may still be closed because of flooding from this weekend’s rain, some of our buses may need to be rerouted due to those closures. Please keep in mind that this may impact pick up times Monday morning. Thank you for your patience and continued support of our school.

Regular Schedule
Good evening, Greenwave families!

This is Mrs. Westerfield, Principal of Glen Alpine Elementary, calling with your weekly updates and important reminders for the week of October 12th through October 16th.

We have several important events taking place this week. On Tuesday, October 13th, our Pre-K students will participate in the annual Prevent Blindness Program. On Thursday, October 15th, our PTO will hold its monthly meeting in the school cafeteria. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend! We truly appreciate our PTO and the wonderful support they provide to our students and staff. Friday, October 16th, marks the end of our first nine weeks of school. It is hard to believe we are already completing our first grading period! Please also remember that Monday, October 19th, and Tuesday, October 20th, are teacher workdays, and students will not attend school on either of these days.

I also want to share an important opportunity for our students. Burke County Public Schools will open the Academically and Intellectually Gifted, or AIG, nomination window on October 12th. The nomination window will remain open through October 23rd. During this time, parents and teachers may nominate students in grades 3 through 8 for consideration for placement testing into the district's AIG program. If you believe your child should be considered for AIG testing, please contact your child's teacher. The deadline for nominations is Friday, October 23rd.

As we continue through the school year, I want to take a moment to remind our families of a few important procedures that help us keep our students safe and our school running smoothly. First, all changes in afternoon transportation must be submitted to the school in writing. We cannot accept transportation changes over the phone or through ClassDojo. This procedure is extremely important in helping us ensure that every student arrives home safely. I also want to remind parents that our teachers are busy teaching and interacting with students throughout the school day and may not see ClassDojo messages immediately. If you have important or time-sensitive information, please contact the school office directly so we can make sure your message is received and addressed promptly.

Another important reminder is to please bring your photo ID whenever you enter the school building or check out your child. The safety and security of our students will always be a top priority. Additionally, I want to thank our families for helping us keep our morning car rider line moving safely and efficiently. Before reaching the unloading area, please make sure your child has their backpack and belongings ready and is prepared to exit the vehicle. Once your vehicle has come to a complete stop, your child should be ready to unbuckle and exit safely. These small steps make a big difference in helping us get everyone into the building safely and ready for a great day of learning.

Finally, I want to take a moment to thank our families for your continued support of Glen Alpine Elementary. We are so fortunate to have such a caring and supportive school community. The partnership between our families, teachers, staff, and community plays such an important role in the success of our students, and we truly appreciate everything you do to help make Glen Alpine Elementary a wonderful place to learn and grow.

Thank you again for being such an important part of our Greenwave family! Have a wonderful evening, enjoy the rest of your weekend, and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow morning!

Also on Wednesday, students in Pre-K through fifth grade will be bringing home information about our first fundraiser of the school year. Please be on the lookout for this information in your child’s backpack.

On Thursday, September 10th, all third-grade students will be traveling to COMMA to attend the North Carolina Symphony. We are excited for our students to have this wonderful experience!
